| So last night Leah and I drove down to San Antonio where we met up with my parents who had just flown down from St. Louis. We then went to kill our hunger at the local IHOP where you were allowed to smoke.
Very weird as I can't recall ever going to a restaurant in the United States where smoking was still permitted. Guess they do what they want down in that San Antone. It was so good to see my parents as its been about a year since I last saw them for just a couple days.
This morning we went to Lackland Airforce Base to see Josiah and part of his graduation ceremonies of completing his basic training and moving from Trainee Baker to Airman Baker, the first rank in the U.S. Air Force.
He looked really good in his blue uniform and bright shiny black shoes. I actually have never seen him look so excited and happy. He came 2nd in physical training out of the 100+ trainees so that was cool.
For the past 6 weeks he had been confined to one small section of the Base and was not allowed to leave base or go to other sections of the base even.
We had a few hours to spend with him on base as he was not allowed to leave until his official graduation tomorrow night.
We went and had lunch at the bowling alley on base which was interesting. It's the first time i've ever really been on any type of military base. Pretty amazing at how they literally have everything there. From grocery stores to banks to bowling alleys, to bars to restaurants, to mechanic shops. Everything you need and more.
I honestly felt like i was back in high school or at least back in zim because of how polite everyone is. I'm not used to a bunch of 20 something year olds being so respectful to older people and people in general.
One of the guy's in Josiah's trainee group or flight as they call it, got to see his baby for the first time after the ceremony as she was born while he was in basic and couldn't leave.
He is going to San Angelo on Monday to start technical school for firefighting and then will be stationed on a base somewhere on this earth. He said his first choices were Hawaii, Italy, Germany or England.
Maybe he will end up in Hawaii and I can follow him and work at some swanky restaurant on the beach.
Anyways it was great to see half of the family and I only wish I could spend more time with them.
That is honestly one of the only things I hate about the service industry or at least working in a kitchen.
They need you there all of the time, and its so hard to get time off. Especially around the holidays when you need it the most. I guess that expression of "you can't have your cake and eat it too" comes to mind.
Or maybe you can. hmmmmmmmmmm, maybe i can rewrite it.
